Renault F1 Team presents the R30 in Valencia

The Renault F1 Team took the covers off its 2010 challenger, the R30, in front of assembled media at the Valencia circuit in Spain. Renault F1 Team driver Robert Kubica was on hand to unveil the car and reveal the exciting new black and yellow livery – the iconic colours made famous by Renault in the 1980s.

The team also presented Vitaly Petrov as Robert's teammate for the 2010 season. The 25-year-old finished as runner-up in the GP2 Series last year and becomes the first Russian driver to race in Formula One.

After unveiling the R30, Team Principal, Eric Boullier, joined Robert and Vitaly for a photo call in front of the car, along with the team's Third Driver, Ho-Pin Tung, and Reserve Driver, Jérôme d'Ambrosio. Czech driver Jan Charouz will also be a Reserve Driver for the team this year but was unable to attend the presentation.

With stable aero regulations the R30 is a mixture of evolution and revolution, and is much more svelte and attractive than its predecessor. In particular the rear of the car has been considerably reworked to allow the car to make the most of the 'double-decker' diffusers that were first seen last year.

Changes have also been made to the architecture of the chassis to adapt to the refuelling ban, which has required the installation of a much larger fuel tank.

Speaking at the presentation, Eric Boullier praised the team's efforts in delivering the new car in time for the first test:

"We've been working flat-out during the winter to ensure that we begin the new season in the best shape possible. The R30 should be a competitive, strong and reliable car, and we've opted for an aggressive development strategy throughout the season. Now we're here ready for the first test and we're all excited to see if the car performs as we think it will."

Both Robert and Vitaly were thrilled to see their new car and spoke of their hopes for the season ahead:

"The team has been working on the new car for a long time and it's clear that we are moving in the right direction," said Robert. "Now we need to maximise the winter tests to keep up this momentum and continue improving the car. Our priority is to make the car easy to drive because the new rules favour cars that are not too sensitive – we need a car that behaves consistently in a wide range of conditions."

Vitaly Petrov added: "The new car looks stunning and the colours remind everybody of Renault's great history in the sport. I can't wait to drive the car for the first time and start working with the team." The Renault F1 Team will remain in Valencia until Wednesday evening to complete the first preseason test session.

Nederlander Ho-Pin Tung derde rijder Renault F1 Team

'Tijdens mijn recente test met Renault in Jerez zei ik dat op de drempel van de Formule 1 stond. Vandaag kan ik zeggen dat ik er in zit.' Dit zei een dolgelukkige Ho-Pin Tung (27) na de officiële teampresentatie van het Renault Formule 1-team in Valencia. De jonge Chinese Nederlander wordt test-en reserverijder en hij zal dus alle wedstrijden aanwezig moeten zijn om zonodig in te vallen voor de wedstrijdrijders.

Ho-Pin Tung zal volledig worden betrokken bij alle teamactiviteiten en regelmatig testwerk verrichten. Naast zijn drukke Formule 1-werkzaamheden zal Ho-Pin een volledig wedstrijdseizoen afwerken in de GP2-klasse, bij het gerenommeerde DAMS-team, dat nu onder de vleugels van Renault is gekomen.

Ho-Pin Tung: 'Mijn entree in de Formule 1 heel goed nieuws voor China en voor het groeiend aantal Formule 1 fans daar.'

Tijdens de teampresentatie in Valencia gaf teamchef Eric Boullier aan onder de indruk te zijn van de prestaties van de Chinese Nederlander. 'Toen Ho-Pin bij ons testte in december maakte hij onmiddellijk indruk door zijn snelheid en de technische feed back, die hij aan het team gaf. Dit overtuigde ons dat hij er klaar voor is om opgenomen te worden in ons team.'

Ho-Pin Tung zei bij de onthulling van de auto voor het WK-seizoen 2010 in Valencia dat vanaf de dag dat hij met racen begon er geen ander doel voor hem was dan de Formule 1. 'Om nu in de koningsklasse van de autosport te stappen is een ongelofelijke kans. Het is echt een droom die uitkomt voor mij, maar het is tevens een nieuw begin. Mijn doel is niet veranderd: ik wil racen en ik wil winnen, voor China, voor mijn fans, voor mijn partners en voor mijzelf. Formule 1 dat is wat echt wil'

Het gaat de jonge Chinees er natuurlijk om zoveel mogelijk te leren in dit seizoen. ' Maar ik ben er ook om echt bij te dragen op alle momenten dat het team mij nodig heeft, ik ben er klaar voor.'

Ho-Pin verklaarde dat hij Renault erg dankbaar is voor deze kans, maar hij betrekt in zijn dank ook het Luxemburgse Gravity Sports en al zijn Chinese en Europese partners, die hem hebben gesteund op de lange weg naar de Formule 1.

Eric Boullier nieuwe teambaas Renault F1 Team

Renault heeft de 36-jarige Fransman Eric Boullier aangesteld als teambaas. Deze functie werd voorheen bekleed door Flavio Briatore, na diens verbanning nam Bob Bell deze functie op interimbasis waar.

Boullier is nauw verbonden aan Genii Capital, de nieuwe co-eigenaar van Renault, als directeur van Gravity Sport Management. Tekst: Daan Jeuken Boullier was voorheen onder andere actief in de Formule Le Mans, de Formule BMW, de A1GP en de GP2.

"Ik ben ongelofelijk trots om nu teambaas te worden van Renault F1 Team", aldus de Fransman. "Renault is een van de bekendste en succesvolste namen in de Formule 1 en heeft in het verleden bewezen vooraan mee te kunnen strijden. In 2010 hopen we weer naar het front toe te kruipen, om ons in 2011 weer te mengen in de strijd om het kampioenschap."
